On April 16, 1209, Pope Innocent III orally approved the new way of life of

Saint Francis of Assisi.

Innocent III & St Francis.jpgNo one is to be called an enemy, all are your benefactors, and no one does you harm. You have no enemy except yourselves.

Amen!

I have never heard of this specific date in 1209. From whence comes this tradition?

The year 1209 is correct but April 16th is a convenient ecclesial fiction. Perhaps? I am not sure but it seems to be around the net. Wait a minute...you're the friar.

Oh yeah, so I am! Thanks!
