Morrisey, RIP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/communio.stblogs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Father-Morrisey-OMI.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-35920 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/communio.stblogs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Father-Morrisey-OMI.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"319\" height=\"229\" \/><\/a>The sad news was sent out among the canon lawyers that the &#8220;dean&#8221; of canonical study, Father Francis G. Morrisey, O.M.I., died this morning at 9:40 a.m. at \u00c9lisabeth Bruy\u00e8re Hospital, Ottawa. \u00a0Father Morrisey had\u00a0been receiving palliative care for the past several weeks due to a cancer diagnosis. His sister, Joan, was with him at the time of his death.<\/p>\n<p>As one canonist said, &#8220;The Church has been enriched by Frank\u2019s selfless outpouring and, through the Church, cultures and societies throughout the world have also been enriched. He remains a gentleman esteemed and admired by a plethora of social innovators, church leaders, and professional colleagues.\u00a0He has shown himself to be a faithful son of Saint Eugene De Mazenod who envisioned bringing healing and hope to the peripheries of Eugene\u2019s day. Frank has done the same in today\u2019s world.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Father Morrisey mentored many\u00a0at Saint Paul University, Ottawa. It\u00a0was \u00a0said that he was a brilliant, humble, caring teacher &#8211;a priest and servant of the gospel- a colleague, a gentle soul and a friend.\u00a0He was a great contributor at the annual CLSA convention and at\u00a0regional canon law conferences.<\/p>\n<p>While I did not know Father\u00a0Morrisey personally, I had some communication with him through the years and I have used his canonical thought. We all have been enriched by Father&#8217;s presence and his great humanity. He won a lifetime achievement aware in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omiusa.org\/index.php\/2019\/06\/26\/frank-morrisey-omi-to-receive-lifetime-achievement-award-from-catholic-health-ministry\/\"><strong>2019 which you can read\/listen here<\/strong><\/a>. Thanks be to God.<\/p>\n<p>Eternal rest, grant unto Father\u00a0Morrisey O Lord\u00a0and let perpetual light shine upon him.<br \/>\nMay he rest in peace.
