{"id":34437,"date":"2017-02-13T08:42:33","date_gmt":"2017-02-13T12:42:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/communio.stblogs.org\/?p=34437"},"modified":"2017-02-13T08:45:07","modified_gmt":"2017-02-13T12:45:07","slug":"study-theology-anyway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/communio.stblogs.org\/index.php\/2017\/02\/study-theology-anyway\/","title":{"rendered":"Study theology (anyway)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A friend brought my attention to an essay by pulling out this quote:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">A good theologian&#8230;&#8217;has to be a historian, a philosopher, a linguist, a skillful interpreter of texts both ancient and modern, and probably many other things besides.&#8217; In many ways, a course in theology is an ideal synthesis of all other liberal arts: &#8230;as Wood terms it, &#8216;Queen of the Humanities.&#8217; &#8230;the absence of theology in our universities is an unfortunate example of blindness\u2014willful or no\u2014to the fact that engagement with the past requires more than mere objective or comparative analysis.
