While it is a Sunday, the feast gets trumped by the Sunday observance.<\/p>\n<p>The teaching we hold dear about the Guardian Angel is that\u00a0an\u00a0angel is (a created, non-human, non-corporeal being) that has been assigned to guard a particular person, with concern for that person to avoid spiritual and physical dangers and work out one&#8217;s salvation. The Directory on Piety and the Tradition of the Church says\u00a0serenity and confidence in facing difficult situations, since the Lord guides and protects the faithful in the way of justice through the ministry of His Holy Angels.<\/p>\n<p>In sacred Scripture, the Prophet\u00a0Daniel speaks of Michael as \u201cthe great prince who has charge of your [Daniel\u2019s] people\u201d (Dan. 12:1). Michael\u00a0is depicted as the guardian angel of Israel.<\/p>\n<p>Saint Matthew&#8217;s\u00a0Gospel speaks of Jesus talking about are guardian angels for all persons, particularly little children. He says:\u00a0See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven (Matt. 18:10).<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;A prayer to the good angel&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>O sweet angel, to me so dear,<br \/>\nWho night and day standeth me near<br \/>\nFull lovingly, with mild mood,<i>\u00a0[gentle mind]<\/i><br \/>\nThanks, honour, love and praising,<br \/>\nOffer for me to Jesu, our king,<br \/>\nFor his gifts great and good.<\/p>\n<p>As thou goest betwixt him and me,<br \/>\nAnd knowest my life in every degree,<br \/>\nTelling it in his presence,<br \/>\nAsk me grace to love him truly,<br \/>\nTo serve my Lord with heart duly,<br \/>\nWith my daily diligence.<\/p>\n<p>Keep me from vice and all perils,<br \/>\nWhile thou with me daily travels<br \/>\nIn this world of wickedness;<br \/>\nCause my petitions to be granted<br \/>\nBy thy prayer daily haunted,<br \/>\nIf it please thy holiness.<\/p>\n<p>O sweet angel, who keepest me,<br \/>\nBring me to bliss, I pray thee!<\/p>\n<p>From the manuscript from which this prayer comes we can note that it was in a volume owned by Margaret Beauchamp, the\u00a0Duchess of Somerset, mother of Margaret Beaufort, and grandmother of Henry VII.<\/p>\n<p><i>Religious Lyrics of the XVth Century<\/i>, ed.
