The Church designated May 12th (the anniversary of his First Communion) as his feast day.<\/p>\n<div class=\"text_exposed_show\">\n<p>To mark the occasion, Fr. Javier del Castillo prepared <a href=\"http:\/\/stjosemaria.org\/the-feast-of-blessed-alvaro\/\"><strong>a special meditation for listeners<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(a podcast) published by the St. Josemaria Institute.<\/p>\n<p>Don Alvaro was known for his humility and his faithfulness but it was\u00a0also said that he had the\u00a0heroic virtue of courage (he was a man of fortitude, a gift of the Spirit). We need to be sure in our walking in the ways of the Lord building the Church. He is called Saxum (rock), a metaphor for fortitude by Saint Josemar\u00eda.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Lord is my rock&#8230;.&#8221; May Blessed Alvaro help us in our daily life, to show us what it means to be people of humility, faithfulness, and courage.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today is the first time the Church is able to celebrate the liturgical memorial of Blessed Alvaro del Portillo since he was beatified in 2014.
