His Holiness canonized three new patrons, to pray for us in heaven. Actually, God makes saints, the Church discerns who the saints are. All three have strong connections to the Americas: Canada and Brazil.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/communio.stblogs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/St-Jos\u00e9-de-Anchieta.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-30659 alignleft\" alt=\"St Jos\u00e9 de Anchieta\" src=\"https:\/\/communio.stblogs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/St-Jos\u00e9-de-Anchieta.jpg\" width=\"220\" height=\"208\" \/><\/a>Saint Jos\u00e9 de Anchieta is the newest Jesuit saint. The saint died in 1597. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jesuits.org\/news-detail?TN=NEWS-20140331035721&amp;Method=Active\"><strong>De Anchieta is known as the \u201cApostle of Brazil\u201d and \u201cFather of Brazilian Literature,\u201d<\/strong><\/a> a person in Brazil\u2019s history. Writing to the Society of Jesus, Father Adolfo Nicol\u00e1s, superior general, said:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The Society must not refuse this invitation offered to present anew this versatile figure who is inspiring and extremely relevant to this day. What does the Lord want to say to us in giving us the gift, in less than a year, of Church recognition of the evangelical value of the lives of our two companions, Peter Faber and Jos\u00e9 de Anchieta? These are two men who accomplished missions so different and yet so similar in the Jesuit spirit that should animate our mission. Both, with the passion of their lives, invite us to discover that the &#8220;restoration,&#8221; more than being a mere historical event for us, ought to manifest the ever present &#8220;mode of being&#8221; of an apostolic body in continuous re-creation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Jos\u00e9 de Anchieta, \u201cof medium height, lean, with a strong and decisive spirit, bronzed features, bluish eyes, ample forehead, large nose, thin beard, and with a happy and friendly face,\u201d spent 44 years of his life traversing a good part of the geography of Brazil and carrying the good news of the Gospel to the native peoples.<\/p>\n<p>Read Father Adolfo Nicol\u00e1s\u2019 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sjweb.info\/news\/index.cfm?Tab=2&amp;publang=1\"><strong>whole letter here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Saint Marie de l&#8217;Incarnation (Marie of the Incarnation) is an amazing Ursuline sister who founded the first Ursuline convent in Canada, founded Canada&#8217;s first school and is called \u201cMother of Canada.\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ursulines-uc.com\/eng\/marie.php\"><strong>The biography of Saint Marie<\/strong><\/a> is written by the Ursulines.<\/p>\n<p>Saint Fran\u00e7ois de Laval, was the first bishop of Qu\u00e9bec. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.francoisdelaval.com\/english\/index.html\"><strong>You can read about him<\/strong><\/a> at Center Francois de Laval.<\/p>\n<p>In literature Saints Marie of the Incarnation and Fran\u00e7ois de Laval are found in Willa Cather\u2019s 1931 novel of early Quebec, Shadows on the Rock.<\/p>\n<p>May our three new heavenly companions to show us by their example how to love God in a particular way.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This morning we have three new saints!
