Our common experience today at Mass prayed in the Ordinary Forum is often in the language of the people. The official language of the Catholic Church, however, remains Latin: the texts of the church, the texts of the pope, and importantly, in the prayer of the Church. Fear not. The &#8220;house&#8221; language today, the daily work of the curia is Italian. It is possible that at some point English will replace Italian.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Carmelite friar <a class=\"zem_slink\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Reginald_Foster_%28Latinist%29\" title=\"Reginald Foster (Latinist)\" rel=\"wikipedia\" target=\"_blank\">Father Reginald Foster<\/a> is the renown contemporary father of the Latin language. He spent several decades in Rome working, teaching and writing in Latin. Now he&#8217;s retired from active teaching but he keeps his hands in the field by consulting, developing teaching materials, writing and attending some initiatives. One of his works is <a href=\"www.thelatinlanguage.org\">Corpus&nbsp;Latinitatis<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>A recent Reuters article brings to life in a brief fashion the influence of Father Reg in &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2013\/05\/23\/us-usa-education-latin-idUSBRE94M0SQ20130523\">Spreading the word that Latin lives<\/a>&#8230;&#8221;<\/div>\n<div class=\"zemanta-pixie\" style=\"margin-top:10px;height:15px\"><a class=\"zemanta-pixie-a\" href=\"http:\/\/www.zemanta.com\/?px\" title=\"Enhanced by Zemanta\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"zemanta-pixie-img\" src=\"http:\/\/img.zemanta.com\/zemified_e.png?x-id=049d70a8-e783-447d-ae59-b216f88c9f55\" alt=\"Enhanced by Zemanta\" style=\"border:none;float:right\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Latin language is far from being extinct even though you only hear it at times in Church.
