Most often Latin Catholics are too skeptical, too closed-minded to look beyond their parochial understanding of God and Church.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; \">Each Sunday Jesuit Father Steve Bonian, a<br \/>\nMaronite Catholic American priest reflects on the liturgical theology of his<br \/>\nchurch. If you done a little reading in the liturgical history of the Church you will recall with joy that the Maronites have an incredibly rich liturgical tradition that ought to be appreciated more. For one thing the Maronite Liturgy is wonderfully Semitic in its pattern of prayer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;\">The Maronite Church, the majority of Catholics from Lebanon, celebrated<br \/>\nyesterday the Sunday of the Consecration of the Church. The Roman Church does<br \/>\nnot have an equivalent liturgical observance, unless you make a connection with<br \/>\nthe Christ the King Sunday, the final Sunday of the Roman Church&#8217;s year. &nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; \">The Maronite liturgical theology for the <b>Sunday of the Consecration of the Church<\/b> you note that &#8220;the Bride-Church re-consecrates herself and her children, the faithful, to Christ.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; \">Father Bonian writes,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/communio.stblogs.org\/church-icon.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"church-icon.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/communio.stblogs.org\/assets_c\/2012\/11\/church-icon-thumb-300x207-13166.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"207\" class=\"mt-image-left\" style=\"float: left; margin: 0 20px 20px 0;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; \">The<br \/>\nletter to the Hebrews reminds us that the Temple in Jerusalem and it&#8217;s rituals<br \/>\nwas only a temporal preparation for the &#8220;new order&#8221; that would be established<br \/>\nbetween Christ and his Church and her children.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;\">From now on the Children of God<br \/>\nwould worship him in Spirit and Truth on earth as in the Heavenly Jerusalem.<br \/>\nFor it is not God&#8217;s will to dwell among stones, but in the caring hearts of his<br \/>\nfaithful people, and among them to establish his Kingdom. <b>Our Church Community<br \/>\nis this New Temple!<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--EndFragment--><\/p>\n<div class=\"zemanta-pixie\" style=\"margin-top:10px;height:15px\"><a class=\"zemanta-pixie-a\" href=\"http:\/\/www.zemanta.com\/?px\" title=\"Enhanced by Zemanta\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"zemanta-pixie-img\" src=\"http:\/\/img.zemanta.com\/zemified_e.png?x-id=086068db-fae6-42a2-a778-42283aad7308\" alt=\"Enhanced by Zemanta\" style=\"border:none;float:right\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0.75em; margin-left: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-color: initial; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; font-size: 1em; font-weight: normal; \"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; \">In Matthew&#8217;s Gospel Jesus establishes Peter &#8211; who consecrates himself to Christ Jesus in faith &#8211; and his Church as the link between God&#8217;s Kingdom on earth with it&#8217;s fulfillment in Heaven. And just as God had sealed his&nbsp;<u>Covenant of Promise with Abraham<\/u>&nbsp;and his descendants in the past;&nbsp;<b>so now<\/b>&nbsp;Christ seals his New Covenant with Peter, the guardian of the Church,&nbsp;<b>and<\/b>&nbsp;his faithful descendants, the children of the Church.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0.75em; margin-left: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-color: initial; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; font-size: 1em; font-weight: normal; \"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; \">In the&nbsp;<i>Hoosoyo<\/i>&nbsp;[one of the opening prayers of forgiveness in the Liturgy] we hear the Voice of Christ as it echoes deep within his Church in confirmation of his promise of unwavering love for her: &#8220;behold I am with you to the end of time!&#8221;&nbsp;<u>The Church&#8217;s self-consecration to Christ is therefore a result of his self consecration to her<\/u>: &#8220;It was&nbsp;<b>He who loved us first<\/b>&#8221; (1John 4:19). Our Sunday&#8217;s Communion itself &#8211; the bread of fire and the cup of the Spirit &#8211; becomes the expression of this mutual commitment and self consecration between Christ and his Church, and his peace with her children.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0.75em; margin-left: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-color: initial; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; font-size: 1em; font-weight: normal; \"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; \">In his teachings, Saint Paul guides his married faithful&nbsp;<u>to consecrate themselves to each other as Christ has done for the Church&nbsp;<\/u>(Ephesians 5: 22-32). Like the Church who consecrates herself to Christ, this is now the appropriate time for married couples &#8211; along with their loved ones &#8211; to re-consecrate themselves and their families to each other, and to Christ.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0.75em; margin-left: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-color: initial; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; font-size: 1em; font-weight: normal; \"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; \">In our families that have experienced breakdowns&nbsp;<b>this is the right season to forgive and ask for forgiveness from each other<\/b>.
