Saint Hildegard was a 12th century German \u00a0Benedictine nun, writer, composer, philosopher, polymath, and mystic. The sainted abbess was also the founder of several monasteries. On 10 May 2012, Pope\u00a0Benedict formally proclaimed her a saint by an equivalent of canonization, and therefore\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.osservatoreromano.va\/portal\/dt?JSPTabContainer.setSelected=JSPTabContainer%2FDetail&amp;last=false=&amp;path=\/news\/cultura\/2012\/110q12-Che-cosa-significa-canonizzazione-equipolle.html&amp;title=What%20is%20%20an%20equivalent%20canonization&amp;locale=en\"><strong>a<\/strong><b>dded her to the Church&#8217;s roster of saints<\/b><\/a><b>\u00a0(Roman Martyrology)<\/b>\u00a0extending her liturgical feast throughout the world.<\/p>\n<p>Pope Benedict also\u00a0proclaimed\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_of_Avila\"><b>Saint\u00a0John of Avila<\/b><\/a> (1500-1569),\u00a0a Doctor of the Church.
