Tax-collectors were considered public sinners, and<br \/>\nwe can hear an echo of the scandal caused by the Lord&#8217;s decision to associate<br \/>\nwith such men in his declaration that he came &#8220;not to call the just but<br \/>\nsinners&#8221;<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>(Mt 2:17).&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">This is<br \/>\nthe heart of the &#8220;good news&#8221; which Jesus came to bring: the offer of<br \/>\nGod&#8217;s grace to sinners!
