\n\"Little<\/a>The spiritual tradition of the Franciscans is\u00a0connecting the with the good work of the sainted founder, Saint Francis, who as\u00a0you know, fixed three chapels: the third was called the Portiuncula<\/a><\/strong> (the Little\u00a0Portion), dedicated to Saint Mary of the Angels. As you can see, the chapel\u00a0sits in a large basilica in Assisi. The friars have been at the Portiuncula\u00a0since early thirteen century. Saint Clare made her vows following Palm Sunday in\u00a01212 and where Francis died on 3 October 1226.<\/span><\/p>\n

For centuries the Church, at the\u00a0request of Francis, has attached a spiritual favor in the form of indulgence, a\u00a0grant remission of sins to all who came there. It used to be given only at the\u00a0Portiuncula but now the privilege extends beyond the Portiuncula especially those\u00a0administered by Franciscans, throughout the world, to others churches as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0Church teaches that a plenary indulgence is a powerful tool for works of mercy\u00a0and weapon in the living of the Christian life, that is, in our spiritual\u00a0warfare. A plenary indulgence is the remission of the effects of sin, through\u00a0the merits of Jesus Christ and the saints, through the Church, of all temporal\u00a0punishment due to sin already forgiven through the reception of the sacrament\u00a0of Confession.<\/span><\/p>\n

To obtain the Portiuncula plenary indulgence, a person must visit\u00a0the Chapel of Our Lady of the Angels at Assisi, or a Franciscan church or\u00a0chapel, or even one’s parish church, with the intention of honoring Our Lady of\u00a0the Angels. The recites the Creed and prays the Our Father for the Pope’s\u00a0designated intentions (see the monthly papal prayer intentions). Key is going\u00a0to Confession (“free of attachment to venial and mortal sin). One can make a confession\u00a0and receive Holy Communion 8 days before or after.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
