Take the text of the\u00a0&#8220;Veni Sancte Spiritus&#8221; use it for your Lectio Divina up to Pentecost, and perhaps in days following.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For many people in the pew, \u00a0the Church&#8217;s use of the sequence 4 times a year jumps out of no where and it sinks into oblivion because it is infrequently spoken of in bulletins or in homilies. With rare exception priests sadly ignore the sequences. Today, the priest actually made the suggestion to pray with the Pentecost sequence, &#8220;Veni Sancte Spirtus&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The\u00a0sequence, as you know, is a poem of the Middle Ages that was composed for specific\u00a0feasts of the Paschal Mystery, holy days and feasts of saints to draw our attention to the truth of the faith. It is the lex orandi tradition at its best. While not\u00a0taken from the Bible, the sequence relates to us the major themes of sacred\u00a0Scripture to which we need to give some attention. The sequence is sung after the\u00a0second reading and right before the Alleluia verse (Gospel acclamation).<\/p>\n<p>Here\u00a0are but a few lines from &#8220;Veni Sancte Spiritus&#8221; to bring to prayer:<\/p>\n<p>O most\u00a0blessed Light\u00a0<b>fill<\/b>\u00a0the inmost heart of thy faithful.<\/p>\n<p><b>Without your spirit<\/b>,\u00a0nothing is in man, nothing that is harmless.<\/p>\n<p><b>Wash<\/b>\u00a0that which is sordid water\u00a0that which is dry,\u00a0<b>heal<\/b>\u00a0that which is wounded.<\/p>\n<p><b>Make flexible<\/b>\u00a0that which is\u00a0rigid,\u00a0<b>warm<\/b>\u00a0that which is cold,\u00a0<b>rule<\/b>\u00a0that which is deviant.<\/p>\n<p>The full text of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ccwatershed.org\/blog\/2013\/may\/10\/english-setting-pentecost-sequence-free-download\/\"><strong>Pentecost sequence is noted here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman';\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the days that\u00a0lead up to the great solemnity of Pentecost meditating on the sequence for\u00a0Pentecost, &#8220;Veni Sancte Spiritus&#8221; (Come Holy Spirit), is appropriate.
