He&#8217;s attentive to the Magisterium. The concern is to know what the we, as Christians, believe and teach about who Jesus Christ is, and why. In this book the author is wants to answer this question: what does it mean for an infinite God to become man?<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The title of this book is taken from a poem of Jesuit Father Gerard Manley Hopkins, &#8220;The Blessed Virgin compared to the Air we Breathe.&#8221; There the poet says:<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8220;This air, by life&#8217;s law,<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">My lung must draw and draw<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">Now but to breathe its praise,<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">Minds me in many ways<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">Of her who not only<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">Gave God&#8217;s infinity<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">Dwindled to infancy<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">Welcome in womb and breast,<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">Birth, milk, and all the rest<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">But mothers each new grace<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\">That does now reach our race.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><i>Infinity Dwindled to Infancy<\/i> has three parts: the data, the history and the teaching on the identity and work of Christ. The work carries an <i>Imprimatur<\/i> from Francis Cardinal George, Archbishop of Chicago and the <i>Nihil obstat<\/i> from Capuchin Father Thomas Weinandy, theologian for the US Conference of Bishops.<\/div>\n<p>Father Edward T. Oakes, SJ, is a professor of systematic theologian teaching at Mundelein Seminary. He is a member of the some time meeting of the Dulles Colloquium (a theological discussion group that was organized by Father Richard J. Neuhaus and Cardinal Avery Dulles) and he is a member of the ecumenical theological discussion group <strong><i><a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Evangelicals and Catholics Together\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Evangelicals_and_Catholics_Together\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Evangelicals and Catholics Together<\/a><\/i><\/strong>. Oakes is a frequent writer for First Things and several other periodicals.
