Mostly because of the work that needs to be done in preparing the sacred Liturgy. Sadly, not enough time for prayer. Reminder: Palm Sunday of the Lord&#8217;s Passion is this weekend, it is not only the liturgical memorial of the Lord&#8217;s move to Jerusalem, it is also our hour of judgment. Jesus is not one among many saviors. Jesus is THE Messiah, the Son of Man, the Son of God who opens the door to God the Father and redeems us. No one, absolutely no one, can avoid the Lord&#8217;s hour of supreme love and self-giving in dying on the cross. It is, for us Christians, the tree of life.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;\"><i>Too many people these days have difficulty in accepting a positive view of Christ dying on the cross. Far from their hearts are Pope Leo&#8217;s words: &#8220;How&nbsp;<\/i><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; \"><u><i>marvelous the power of the cross<\/i><\/u><i>; how <\/i><u><i>great beyond all telling the glory of the passion<\/i><\/u><i>.&#8221; Here&#8217;s <\/i><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; \"><i>Pope Saint Leo the Great&#8217;s<br \/>\nSermon on the Passion:<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/communio.stblogs.org\/Crucifixion%20JCasentino.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Crucifixion JCasentino.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/communio.stblogs.org\/assets_c\/2011\/04\/Crucifixion JCasentino-thumb-292x717-8979.jpg\" width=\"292\" height=\"717\" class=\"mt-image-left\" style=\"float: left; margin: 0 20px 20px 0;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;\">Our understanding, which is enlightened by the Spirit of<br \/>\ntruth, should receive with purity and freedom of heart the glory of the cross<br \/>\nas it shines in heaven and on earth. It should see with inner vision the<br \/>\nmeaning of the Lord&#8217;s words when he spoke of the imminence of his passion: <u>The<br \/>\nhour has come<\/u> for the Son of Man to be glorified.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;\">Afterward he said: Now my<br \/>\nsoul is troubled, and what am I to say? Father, save me from this hour. But it<br \/>\nwas for this that I came to this hour. Father, glorify your Son. When <u>the voice<br \/>\nof the Father<\/u> came from heaven, saying, <i>I have glorified him, and will glorify<br \/>\nhim again<\/i>, Jesus said in reply to those around him: It was not for me that this<br \/>\nvoice spoke, but for you. <b>Now is the judgment of the world, now will the prince<br \/>\nof this world be cast out<\/b>. And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw<br \/>\nall things to myself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;\">How marvelous the power of the cross; how great beyond<br \/>\nall telling the glory of the passion: here is the judgment-seat of the Lord,<br \/>\nthe condemnation of the world, the supremacy of Christ crucified.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;\">Lord, you<br \/>\ndrew all things to yourself so that the devotion of all peoples everywhere<br \/>\nmight celebrate, in a sacrament made perfect and visible, what was carried out<br \/>\nin the one temple of Judea under obscure foreshadowings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;\">Now there is a more<br \/>\ndistinguished order of Levites, a greater dignity for the rank of elders, a<br \/>\nmore sacred anointing for the priesthood, because your<br \/>\ncross is the source of all blessings, the cause of all graces. <b>Through the<br \/>\ncross the faithful receive strength from weakness, glory from dishonour, life<br \/>\nfrom death.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;\">The different <u>sacrifices of animals are no more<\/u>: <b>the one offering of<br \/>\nyour body and blood is the fulfillment of all the different sacrificial<br \/>\nofferings, for you are the true Lamb of God: you take away the sins of the<br \/>\nworld<\/b>. In yourself you bring to perfection all mysteries, so that, as there is<br \/>\none sacrifice in place of all other sacrificial offerings, there is also one<br \/>\nkingdom gathered from all peoples.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--EndFragment--><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; \">Dearly beloved, let us then acknowledge what Saint Paul, the teacher of the nations, acknowledged so exultantly: This is a saying worthy of trust, worthy of complete acceptance: Christ Jesus came into this world to save sinners.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0.75em; margin-left: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-color: initial; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; font-size: 1em; font-weight: normal; \"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; \"><b>God&#8217;s compassion for us is all the more wonderful because Christ died<\/b>, not for the righteous or the holy&nbsp;<b>but for the wicked and the sinful<\/b>, and, though the divine nature could not be touched by the sting of death, he took to himself, through his birth as one of us, something he could offer on our behalf.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0.75em; margin-left: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-style: initial; border-color: initial; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; font-size: 1em; font-weight: normal; \"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman'; \">The power of his death once confronted our death. In the words of Hosea the prophet: Death, I shall be your death; grave, I shall swallow you up. By dying he submitted to the laws of the underworld; by rising again he destroyed them.
