Jesus left his throne in heaven,<\/div>\n
Humbly coming as a slave,<\/div>\n
Here his love and his obedience<\/div>\n
Were the ransom that still saves:<\/div>\n
Strong the song the Church now raises<\/div>\n
For this humble virgin’s day,<\/div>\n
Praising God that, through all struggles,<\/div>\n
She was led to Christ, the Way.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
As a child torn from her fam’ly,<\/div>\n
Made a slave, great suff’ring bore,<\/div>\n
And by those who took her childhood,<\/div>\n
Named “Bakhita” everymore.<\/div>\n
Brought to Italy and rescued<\/div>\n
By Cannosian sisters there,<\/div>\n
She found Christ and then was baptized,<\/div>\n
Lived in service and in prayer.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
As the virgins in the Gospel,<\/div>\n
Josephine was filled with light,<\/div>\n
Daily serving at her convent,<\/div>\n
Greetings all with heaven’s sight;<\/div>\n
Loving all with Jesus’ mercy,<\/div>\n
Treating each as she would him–<\/div>\n
Persevered through pain and sorrow,<\/div>\n
Making life her off’ring-hymn.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Glory to the loving Father<\/div>\n
Who has made us for his own;<\/div>\n
Glory to the Son, who saves<\/div>\n
And who lifts us to his throne;<\/div>\n
Glory to the Holy Spirit,<\/div>\n
Never-ending font of love!<\/div>\n
With our saint, the “one most blessèd,”<\/div>\n
We raise songs to God above!<\/div>\n
