{"id":25855,"date":"2010-10-08T19:39:09","date_gmt":"2010-10-08T23:39:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/communio.stblogs.org\/index.php\/2010\/10\/worlds-oldest-catholic-univers-1\/"},"modified":"2010-10-08T19:39:09","modified_gmt":"2010-10-08T23:39:09","slug":"worlds-oldest-catholic-univers-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/communio.stblogs.org\/index.php\/2010\/10\/worlds-oldest-catholic-univers-1\/","title":{"rendered":"World&#8217;s &#8220;Oldest&#8221; Catholic university to reconsider &#8220;Catholic&#8221; identity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kuleuven.be\/english\/\">The Catholic University of Lueven<\/a>, founded in 1425 by Pope Martin V is said to be entering into a process to re-consider their Catholic identity, even to the point of removing the adjective &#8220;Catholic&#8221; from their title, a news item on the <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.cardinalnewmansociety.org\/2010\/10\/08\/worlds-oldest-catholic-university-dropping-catholic-from-name\/\">Cardinal Newman Society&#8217;s webpage<\/a> said, reporting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.presseurop.eu\/en\/content\/news-brief-cover\/355201-catholic-university-drops-c-word\">a Brussels-based news<\/a> article on October 7.<\/p>\n<p>The university&#8217;s rector Mark Waer, 59, a trained physican and medical researcher in nephrology and immunology, has reportedly said, &#8220;The Catholic message is not appropriate for the university&#8230;&#8221; after the criticism from Catholics about the granting of the Nobel Prize to the instigator of IVF technology.
