Is there such a thing? Do Catholics actually have a structure of belief? Well, yes, there are 4 essential building blocks of our life of faith. These 4 areas are the very same areas by which the Catechism of the Catholic is structured.<\/span><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Garamond\" size=\"4\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><!--StartFragment--><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">The 4 Pillars of the Catholic Faith:<\/span><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Garamond\" size=\"4\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\"><br \/><\/span><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Garamond\" size=\"4\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">-Creed<\/span><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Garamond\" size=\"4\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">-10 Commandments<\/span><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Garamond\" size=\"4\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">-7 Sacraments<\/span><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Garamond\" size=\"4\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">-The Lord&#8217;s Prayer (Christian prayer)<\/span><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Garamond\" size=\"4\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\"><br \/><\/span><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/communio.stblogs.org\/Christ%20giving%20the%20keys%20to%20Peter.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Christ giving the keys to Peter.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/communio.stblogs.org\/assets_c\/2010\/10\/Christ giving the keys to Peter-thumb-300x457-7364.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"457\" class=\"mt-image-right\" style=\"float: right; margin: 0 0 20px 20px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Garamond\" size=\"4\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px; \"><\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px; \"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">Catholics believe in revealed<br \/>\ntruth. Spirituality needs to be founded on truth otherwise you have nothing.<br \/>\nHence creed, code &amp; cult are essential aspects of Catholic Faith.<\/span><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Garamond\" size=\"4\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\"><br \/><\/span><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Garamond\" size=\"4\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">The study of faith needs two distinctions to understand what&#8217;s going with the army of words and ideas associated with theological reflection: fides quae <u>and<\/u> fides<br \/>\nqua.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Garamond\" size=\"4\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\"><br \/><\/span><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Garamond\" size=\"4\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\"><b>Fides quae<\/b> (&#8220;faith which&#8221;) is the faith which is held by<br \/>\nthe Church through divine revelation or sacred tradition (it is what is considered to be objective, verifiable faith).<\/span><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Garamond\" size=\"4\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\"><br \/><\/span><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Garamond\" size=\"4\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\"><b>Fides qua<\/b><br \/>\n(&#8220;faith by which&#8221;) is the faith by which a person is moved to respond<br \/>\nto God. A person&#8217;s understanding of his or her <u>personal<\/u> relationship<br \/>\nto God is spoken of here; here we usually filter what hear of divine revelation; in some instances personal<br \/>\nrevelation is located in this type of faith, e.g., the teachings of the saints would be a distinction of fides qua (we&#8217;ll say this is subjective faith, a faith known through concrete experience).<\/span><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Garamond\" size=\"4\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\"><br \/><\/span><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Garamond\" size=\"4\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">Theologically speaking, a theologian be able to<br \/>\ndistinguish between fides quae and fides qua and to always maintain conformity<br \/>\nin study and work with fides quae. Only a few theologian have held a personal<br \/>\nfaith that has been enlightened enough to illuminate fides quae. The task of<br \/>\ntheology is gain a deeper understanding of faith; it is, as St Anselm said:<br \/>\n<i>faith seeking understanding<\/i>. Our study of theology is done on our knees; that<br \/>\nis, we study the fact of God and the allied theological sciences from a posture of adoration of<br \/>\nGod first, in the sacred Liturgy and second, in personal prayer.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Garamond\" size=\"4\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\"><br \/><\/span><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Garamond\" size=\"4\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">The student of<br \/>\ntheology takes his or her first presupposition from the position of &#8220;faith.&#8221; Faith is not a gift of God it is also <u>the<\/u> manner by which we look at<br \/>\nreality, it&#8217;s the &#8220;starting point for a new way -that is, a true way of<br \/>\nbecoming aware of reality itself.&#8221; Through faith we have access to truth and through we live truth.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Without faith in the study of theology<br \/>\nwe have mere religious studies.<\/span><!--EndFragment--><br \/>\n<\/span><\/font><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A question was asked of me about the building blocks of the Catholic faith.
