On this our liturgical remembrance of Our Lady’s birthday, it is apt to recall what <\/span>Saint Andrew of Crete, preached: <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>This is the highest, all-embracing benefit that Christ
\nhas bestowed upon us. This is the revelation of the mystery, this is the emptying-out
\nof the divine nature, the union of God and man, and the deification of the
\nmanhood that was assumed. This radiant and manifest coming of God to men most
\ncertainly needed a joyful prelude to introduce the great gift of salvation to
\nus. The present festival –the nativity of the Theotokos– is that prelude, while
\nthe final act is the foreordained union of the Word with flesh. Today the Virgin
\nis born, tended and formed, and prepared for her role as Mother of God, that
\nGod who is the universal King of all the ages!<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/blockquote>\n

With the choirs of saints and angels,<\/p>\n

<\/blockquote>\n

Let the Church be joined as one,<\/p>\n

<\/blockquote>\n

Binding earth to highest heaven,<\/p>\n

<\/blockquote>\n

Praising Jesus, Mary’s Son<\/p>\n

<\/blockquote>\n

Son of God-the Father’s glory<\/p>\n

<\/blockquote>\n

Who took flesh that we might be<\/p>\n

<\/blockquote>\n

Reconciled, reborn, forgiven,<\/p>\n

From the pow’r of sin set free!<\/p>\n

<\/blockquote>\n

On this solemn, joyful feast day<\/p>\n

<\/blockquote>\n

Let us sing a song of praise,<\/p>\n

<\/blockquote>\n

Thanking God for Mary’s witness<\/p>\n

<\/blockquote>\n

Faithfully kept all her days.<\/p>\n

<\/blockquote>\n

From her birth to blessed Anna,<\/p>\n

<\/blockquote>\n

Mary listened to God’s word,<\/p>\n

<\/blockquote>\n

And, when summoned by the angel,<\/p>\n

Lived in faith what she had heard.<\/p>\n

<\/blockquote>\n

Glory now to God the Father,<\/p>\n

<\/blockquote>\n

Who has made us for his own;<\/p>\n

<\/blockquote>\n

Glory now to Christ our Savior,<\/p>\n

<\/blockquote>\n

Who has raised us to his throne;<\/p>\n

<\/blockquote>\n

Glory now to God the Spirit,    <\/p>\n

<\/blockquote>\n

Who renews us in his grace: <\/p>\n

<\/blockquote>\n

Laud and honor, never ceasing,  <\/p>\n

Be to God from all our race!<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n
