God of truth, you graciously enlightened your
\nChurch by the merits and teaching of Saint Dominic, your confessor and our
\nfather. By his prayers grant that the Church may never lack for temporal help,
\nand may grow ever richer in spiritual blessings.<\/i><\/span><\/div>\n

\nMass it is prayed:<\/span><\/div>\n

We praise and bless you today because you called our Father
\nDominic to enrich the church by renewing the apostolic way of life<\/span>. Disciple of
\nChrist, the very Christ who became poor for our sake, Dominic called the lost
\nand the wandering home by preaching the Good News<\/span>. He gathered a band of
\npreachers together. Nourished by the light of sacred study they gave themselves
\nwithout reservation to the proclamation that Jesus Christ is Lord<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Today’s
\nmemorial for the Order of Preachers is not often celebrated anymore because it
\nconflicts with the larger and more significant observance of Our Lady Help of
\nChristians. But originally this liturgical observance marked the first time the
\nmortal remains of Saint Dominic were moved having been first buried in the
\nChurch of Saint Nicholas of the Vineyards, Bologna, Italy.  <\/span>Because of the healings at Dominic’s
\nintercession made his sons apprehensive to accept the miracles, Pope Gregory IX
\norder that Dominic’s body be moved to a marble sepulchre.  <\/span>The translation took place on
\nPentecost, May 24, 1233, which marked the beginning of the canonization
\nprocess. At the conclusion of the process Pope Gregory IX canonized Dominic a
\nsaint on July 3, 1234.  <\/span>In 1267,
\nDominic’s body was moved a second time, to his present tomb.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
