The friars do more than study, serve the poor, run the <a href=\"http:\/\/catholicunderground.net\/\">Catholic Underground<\/a>&#8212; they cheer the heart with their wine which is a very human thing to do. This is the<br \/>\nsecond year for <i><b>Our Lady of Cana<\/b><\/i> wines. Perhaps this may be a new franchise for the friars!!! I&#8217;m looking forward to a 3rd year of winemaking. AND I am willing to be the wine-quality control guy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: Garamond, helvetica, hirakakupro-w3, osaka, 'ms pgothic', sans-serif; \">With grapes handpicked and materials donated by friends, and<br \/>\nhelp from the other friars, Brother Giuseppi made a great barrel of wine. Of course, nature did her part and God His&#8230; For the<br \/>\nlast six months the wine has matured &#8211;and we&#8217;ve been eagerly waiting for the maturing process to work&#8211; in a basement corner in an oak barrel. The<br \/>\nwine now sufficiently mature,&nbsp;today was the time to bottle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">Deacon James<br \/>\nFerreira, Ken Riello (a 1st yr <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/group.php?gid=132951053706\">Dunwoodian<\/a>) and yours truly set out to watch,<br \/>\nassist and taste the fruit of the earth. James, I hear, has a case of wine for his first Mass in May! AND this event was SO Catholic!<\/font><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/communio.stblogs.org\/fr%20Charles%20praying%20a%20blessing.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"fr Charles praying a blessing.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/communio.stblogs.org\/assets_c\/2010\/03\/fr Charles praying a blessing-thumb-250x187-6069.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"187\" class=\"mt-image-right\" style=\"float: right; margin: 0 0 20px 20px;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">Always thinking liturgically, the<br \/>\nsoon-to-be-priested, Friar Deacon Charles blessed the new wine <a href=\"https:\/\/communio.stblogs.org\/2009\/12\/blessing-of-wine-on-the-feast.html\"><span style=\"color:windowtext;text-decoration:none;text-underline:none\">using this<br \/>\ntext<\/span><\/a>, but here is another version of the blessing of wine:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Garamond, helvetica, hirakakupro-w3, osaka, 'ms pgothic', sans-serif\"><b>The Blessing of Wine in Honor of Saint John the Evangelist<\/b><\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">Lord, have mercy on us. Christ, have mercy on us.<br \/>\nLord, have mercy on us.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\"><i>Pray Psalm 22 and then the&nbsp;Our Father<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">V. And lead<br \/>\nus not into temptation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">R. But deliver us from evil.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">V. Preserve thy servants.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">R.<br \/>\nThat trust in thee, my God.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">V. And with your spirit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">Let us pray.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">Holy Lord,<br \/>\nFather Almighty, eternal God! Who didst will that thy Son, equal to thee in<br \/>\neternity and substance,&nbsp;should descend from heaven and in the fullness of<br \/>\ntime take temporal birth of the most holy Virgin Mary, so that He could seek<br \/>\nthe lost and wayward sheep and carry it on His shoulders to the sheepfold, and<br \/>\ncould cure the man fallen among robbers of his wounds by pouring in oil and<br \/>\nwine&#8211; do thou bless + and sanctify + this wine which thou hast vintaged for<br \/>\nman&#8217;s drink. Whoever partakes of it on this holy solemnity, grant him life in<br \/>\nbody and soul. By thy goodness let it be to him strength in the pilgrimage to<br \/>\nprosper him on the way, that his journey may come to a happy termination.<br \/>\nThrough the same Christ our Lord.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">R. Amen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">Let us pray.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">O Lord Jesus Christ,<br \/>\nWho didst call thyself the true vine and thy holy apostles the branches, and<br \/>\ndidst desire to plant a chosen vineyard of all who love thee, bless + this wine<br \/>\nand impart to it the power of thy benediction.+And as thy beloved disciple John,<br \/>\nApostle and Evangelist intercedes for them that partake thereof, grant them<br \/>\nsecurity from all deadly and poisonous afflictions and constant good health of<br \/>\nsoul and body. Who lives and reigns forever.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">R. Amen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">Let us pray.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">O God, thou<br \/>\ngives to man bread to eat and wine to drink &#8212; bread to nourish the body and<br \/>\nwine to cheer the heart. And as thou didst confer upon blessed John, thy<br \/>\nbeloved disciple such favor that not only did he himself escape the poisoned<br \/>\npotion, but could restore life to others so overcome; do thou grant to all that<br \/>\ndrink this wine spiritual joy and eternal life. Through our Lord Jesus Christ,<br \/>\nthy Son, who with Thee, lives and reigns, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one<br \/>\nGod, forever and ever.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">R.
