Born in Ixelles (Brussels) on 26<br \/>\nSeptember 1918, he entered <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scourmont.be\/scour-a.htm\">Scourmont Abbey<\/a> on 11 June 1941, he professed solemn<br \/>\nvows on 16 July 1946, and was ordained priest on 15 May 1950. He served<br \/>\nseveral times as chaplain at the abbey of Notre Dame de la Paix (Chimay), as<br \/>\nwell as at Soleilmont. For several years he assisted at Caldey and he filled the<br \/>\noffice of Novice Master at Scourmont from 1993 to 1996.<\/span><\/p>\n<div><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Garamond, helvetica, hirakakupro-w3, osaka, 'ms pgothic', sans-serif\" size=\"4\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><br \/><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">He introduced many<br \/>\npeople, especially within the Order, to the knowledge and the love of the<br \/>\nCistercian Fathers, in particular St Bernard. He was the editor of <i>Collectanea<br \/>\nCistercienia, <\/i>later <i>Cisterciensia&nbsp;<\/i>(1963-71) and assisted in the editing of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cistercian-studies-quarterly.org\/\">Cistercian Studies Quarterly<\/a>. Two of his<br \/>\nrecent works are <i>Pathways to Peace: Cistercian Wisdom According to St. Bernard<\/i><br \/>\nand <i>Praying the Word of God<\/i>. Cistercian Sister Elizabeth Connor wrote a book on<br \/>\nFather Charles entitled, <i>Charles Dumont Monk-Poet: A Spiritual Biography<\/i>. His<br \/>\nfuneral took place at Scourmont on 28 December.
