May esteem for silence, that admirable and<br \/>\nindispensable condition of mind, revive in us. . . <b>A lesson on family life<\/b>. May<br \/>\nNazareth teach us what family life is, its communion of love, its austere and<br \/>\nsimple beauty, and its sacred and inviolable character&#8230; <b>A lesson of work<\/b>.<br \/>\nNazareth, home of the &#8220;Carpenter&#8217;s Son&#8221;, in you I would choose to<br \/>\nunderstand and proclaim the severe and redeeming law of human work. . . To<br \/>\nconclude, I want to greet all the workers of the world, holding up to them their<br \/>\ngreat pattern their brother who is God.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Garamond, helvetica, hirakakupro-w3, osaka, 'ms pgothic', sans-serif\" size=\"4\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><br \/><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The finding of Jesus in the temple<br \/>\nis the only event that breaks the silence of the Gospels about the hidden years<br \/>\nof Jesus<\/span>. Here Jesus <span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">lets us catch a glimpse of the mystery of his total<br \/>\nconsecration to a mission that flows from his divine sonship<\/span>: &#8220;Did you not<br \/>\nknow that I must be about my Father&#8217;s work?&#8221; Mary and Joseph did not<br \/>\nunderstand these words, but they accepted them in faith. Mary &#8220;kept all<br \/>\nthese things in her heart&#8221; during the years Jesus remained hidden in the<br \/>\nsilence of an ordinary life. (533-534)<\/span><\/div>\n<div><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Garamond, helvetica, hirakakupro-w3, osaka, 'ms pgothic', sans-serif\" size=\"4\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><br \/><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">from the <i>Directory of Popular Piety and the Liturgy<\/i> on the Feast of the Holy Family<\/span><\/div>\n<div><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Garamond, helvetica, hirakakupro-w3, osaka, 'ms pgothic', sans-serif\" size=\"4\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><br \/><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">The feast of the holy family of Jesus, Mary and<br \/>\nJoseph (Sunday in the Christmas octave) is a festive occasion particularly<br \/>\nsuitable for the celebration of rites or moments of prayer proper to the<br \/>\nChristian family. The recollection of Joseph, Mary and Jesus&#8217; going up to<br \/>\nJerusalem, together with other observant Jewish families, for the celebration<br \/>\nof the Passover (cf. Lk 2:41-42), should normally encourage a positive<br \/>\nacceptance of the pastoral suggestion that all members of the family attend<br \/>\nMass on this day. This feast day also affords an opportunity for the renewal of<br \/>\nour entrustment to the patronage of the Holy Family of Nazareth; the<br \/>\nblessing of children as provided in the ritual; and where opportune, for<br \/>\nthe renewal of marriage vows taken by the spouses on their wedding day, and<br \/>\nalso for the exchange of promises between those engaged to be married in which<br \/>\nthey formalize their desire to found a new Christian family.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><font class=\"Apple-style-span\" face=\"Garamond, helvetica, hirakakupro-w3, osaka, 'ms pgothic', sans-serif\" size=\"4\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><br \/><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Garamond;\nmso-ansi-language:EN-US\">Outside of<br \/>\nthe feast, the faithful have frequent recourse to the Holy Family of Nazareth<br \/>\nin many of life&#8217;s circumstances: joining the Association of the Holy Family so<br \/>\nas to model their own families on the Holy Family of Nazareth; frequent<br \/>\nprayers to entrust themselves to the patronage of the Holy Family and to obtain<br \/>\nassistance at the hour of death.
