His audience on Wednesday where he<br \/>\nspeaks about St. Bernard is one of these instances because he shows me the<br \/>\nbeauty of St. Bernard, the purpose of theology study, life with the saints, and why we have to suffer some things for the Kingdom. For example, the Pope<br \/>\noffers a corrective in my work as a seminarian.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/communio.stblogs.org\/St%20resting%20on%20Jesus%27%20Chest.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"St resting on Jesus' Chest.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/communio.stblogs.org\/assets_c\/2009\/10\/St resting on Jesus' Chest-thumb-250x358-4856.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"358\" class=\"mt-image-left\" style=\"float: left; margin: 0 20px 20px 0;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', helvetica, hirakakupro-w3, osaka, 'ms pgothic', sans-serif; \">Here are a few germane sentences with emphasis added: In one place in the talk Pope says: &#8220;Faith is above all <span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">an<br \/>\nindividual and intimate encounter with Jesus<\/span>; it means experiencing His<br \/>\ncloseness, His friendship and His love.&#8221; He continues &#8220;St. Bernard, solidly<br \/>\nbased on the Bible and on the Fathers of the Church, reminds us that without a profound<br \/>\nfaith in God, nourished by prayer and contemplation, by <span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">a profound relationship<br \/>\nwith the Lord<\/span>, <b>o<\/b><b>ur reflections on the divine mysteries risk becoming a futile<br \/>\nintellectual exercise, and lose their credibility<\/b>. Theology takes us back to<br \/>\nthe &#8220;science of the saints,&#8221; to their intuitions of the mysteries of<br \/>\nthe living God, to their wisdom, gift of the Holy Spirit, which become the<br \/>\npoint of reference for theological thought.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', helvetica, hirakakupro-w3, osaka, 'ms pgothic', sans-serif; \">And given that I think there&#8217;s much discussion<br \/>\nin a seminary work, sometimes too much discussion, I am leaning St. Bernard as<br \/>\nhe says, &#8220;but perhaps He can be sought better and found more easily with<br \/>\nprayer than with discussion.
