When he entered the monastery he took the name&nbsp;Alban and professed vows as a monk of Fort Augustus Abbey, <st1:country -region><st1:place>Scotland<\/st1:place><\/st1:country>, 1929. He graduated the University of Edinburgh with the MA in 1933. His abbot sent him&nbsp;prepare for priestly ordination at Sant&#8217;Anselmo&#8217;s in Rome and he was ordained in 1939. At the time of his death, Dom Alban&nbsp;was in his 80th year as a monk and&nbsp;70th year as a priest.<\/font><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" color=\"#000000\" size=\"3\"><\/font>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" color=\"#000000\" size=\"3\">He was appointed prior in 1947 and the monks of Saint Anselm&#8217;s then elected him abbot in 1961. In retirement (1975), he held the title of Titular Abbot of the <\/font><a title=\"website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dunfermlineabbey.co.uk\/\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" size=\"3\">Royal Abbey of Dunfermline<\/font><\/a><font size=\"3\"><\/font><font color=\"#000000\"><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\">, <st1:country -region><st1:place>Scotland<\/st1:place><\/st1:country>. <\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><font size=\"3\"><\/font><font color=\"#000000\"><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><\/font>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" color=\"#000000\" size=\"3\">Abbot Alban was the author of three books: <em>Alive to God<\/em> (1964), <em>Into His Splendid Light<\/em> (1968) and <em>Christ in Us<\/em> (1982).<\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" color=\"#000000\" size=\"3\"><\/font>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><font size=\"3\"><\/font><font color=\"#000000\"><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\">He was widely recognized as &#8220;a charming man, friendly, warm, witty, and a gifted homilist.&#8221; The monks of the abbey received his body on Friday, April 3rd and the Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday the 4th. <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal\">Requiem aeternam dona eis Domine.<\/i><\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><em><font face=\"Times New Roman\" color=\"#000000\" size=\"3\"><\/font><\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><\/font><font size=\"3\"><\/font><font color=\"#000000\"><em>Time<\/em> magazine&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.time.com\/time\/magazine\/article\/0,9171,874410,00.html\">article<\/a> on Dom Alban<\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\" color=\"#000000\" size=\"3\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.osb.org\/aba\/2002\/proceedings\/html\/M_FrAlbanBoultwood.html\">An interview<\/a> with Dom Alban<\/font><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Right Reverend Dom Alban Boultwood OSB, 97, first abbot of St. Anselm&#8217;s Abbey, Washington, DC, died on 25 March 2009. &nbsp; Henry Boultwood was born in Stamford, CT, on August 17, 1911 and educated in England and Scotland.
