{"id":24360,"date":"2009-02-24T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2009-02-24T10:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/communio.stblogs.org\/index.php\/2009\/02\/we-are-all-begging-to-have-god\/"},"modified":"2009-02-24T06:00:00","modified_gmt":"2009-02-24T10:00:00","slug":"we-are-all-begging-to-have-god","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/communio.stblogs.org\/index.php\/2009\/02\/we-are-all-begging-to-have-god\/","title":{"rendered":"We are all Begging to have God"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><font size=\"3\"><\/font><font color=\"#000000\"><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Saint Basil the Great<o:p><\/o:p><\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><font size=\"3\"><\/font><font color=\"#000000\"><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\">&nbsp; <o:p><\/o:p><\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><font size=\"3\"><\/font><font color=\"#000000\"><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\">It is natural to look for beauty and to love it, even though the idea of what is beautiful varies between one person and another.<o:p><\/o:p><\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><o:p><font face=\"Times New Roman\" color=\"#000000\" size=\"3\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><font size=\"3\"><\/font><font color=\"#000000\"><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Now, what is more marvelous than the divine beauty?&nbsp; What can you think of that is more likely to give pleasure than the magnificence of God?&nbsp; What desire could be more ardent, more irresistible than the thirst which God inspires in the soul when once it has been purified of every vice and cries out: &#8216;I am sick with love.&#8217; [S. of S. 2:5]<o:p><\/o:p><\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><o:p><font face=\"Times New Roman\" color=\"#000000\" size=\"3\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><font size=\"3\"><\/font><font color=\"#000000\"><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\">The divine beauty is beyond description in words.&nbsp; We could compare its brilliance to the light of the morning star or the moon or the sun.&nbsp; But we should be as far from a true description as <st1:time Hour=\"12\" Minute=\"0\">midday<\/st1:time> is from the dead of night.<o:p><\/o:p><\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><o:p><font face=\"Times New Roman\" color=\"#000000\" size=\"3\">&nbsp;<\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><font size=\"3\"><\/font><font color=\"#000000\"><\/font><font face=\"Times New Roman\">This beauty is invisible to the eyes of the body;&nbsp;only the soul and the mind can perceive it.&nbsp; Every time it illumines the saints, it leaves in them a sting, a nostalgia so strong as to wring from the cry: &#8216;Woe is me, that I am in exile still.&#8217; [cf.
