Today, let us pray using the words of Loyola&#8217;s <em>The First Principle and Foundation:<\/em><span class=\"mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image\" style=\"display: inline;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image\" style=\"display: inline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/communio.stblogs.org\/St%20Ignatius%20%26%20Paul%20III.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"mt-image-left\" style=\"margin: 0px 20px 20px 0px; float: left;\" alt=\"St Ignatius &amp; Paul III.gif\" src=\"https:\/\/communio.stblogs.org\/assets_c\/2008\/07\/St%20Ignatius%20&amp;%20Paul%20III-thumb-300x355.gif\" width=\"300\" height=\"355\" \/><\/a><\/span>The goal of our life is to live with God forever. God who loves us, gave us life. Our own response of love allows God&#8217;s life to flow into us without limit. All the things in this world are gifts of God, presented to us so that we can know God more easily and make a return of love more readily. As a result, we appreciate and use all these gifts of God insofar as they help us develop as loving persons. But if any of these gifts become the center of our lives, they displace God and so hinder our growth toward our goal. In everyday life, then, we must hold ourselves in balance before all of these created gifts insofar as we have a choice and are not bound by some obligation.<br style=\"mso-special-character: line-break;\" \/><br style=\"mso-special-character: line-break;\" \/><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman','serif'; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We should not fix our desires on health or sickness, wealth or poverty, success or failure, a long life or short one. For everything has the potential of calling forth in us a deeper response to our life in God. Our only desire and our one choice should be this: I want and I choose what better leads to the deepening of God&#8217;s life in me. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman','serif'; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman','serif'; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8211; St. Ignatius as paraphrased by David L.
