The finding of an ancient artifact in an area where it would not be likely and from an era when it would seem to be improbable is a wonderful thing. The Huqoq mosaic of Samson fighting the Philistines from the 5th and 6th centuries is indeed remarkable. One of the reasons finding this mosaic is important to the field of biblical archeology is that it unearths, as it were, the preconceptions of what religious life whether it was Byzantine Christianity or Judiasm and reorients previously held theories.
