Prayers were requested by my friend, Suzanne, for a
friend, Tina Lillig, one of the pioneers of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS)
here in the U.S., and indeed Director of the National Association of the CGS. Tina
suffered a stroke Friday afternoon while at work. She underwent surgery at
Loyola Medical Center (Chicago). Tina died early this morning. Here is the note
sent by her friends at CGS:
We share with great sadness that our beloved Tina
Lillig has been received into the heavenly fold of the Good Shepherd. She
passed away peacefully at 12:05 am Sunday morning surrounded by her loving
family and all the prayers from so many around the world that were lifted
up on her behalf. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be shared with you,
our members, soon.

Tina impacted countless lives with her loving care. She served as our National
Director with such devotion and grace. She fully gave of her gifts and skills
to further the work of Catechesis of
the Good Shepherd. She was a vital branch on the True Vine who knew
the joy of first remaining and then of bearing fruit. How full of
gratitude we are for who she is and what she has done in service to God. How
grateful we are for her friendship. She will be deeply missed. May her life be
an inspiration to all of us who seek to love and serve the Lord with such
joyful purpose.

I am one of thousands of people who are deeply grateful for Tina Lillig’s work with the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, an approach which has renewed my life in faith. She exemplified the quiet yeast doing its work. May she find joy with the saints in light, and may all those who mourn her be comforted by that vision.
I have never known anyone like Tina. I had the privilege of working with her in the Level III catechesis at Grace Church, and feel so blessed that I could learn from her first hand. She was an inspiring person, and she continues to walk with many people in their journey of faith, including (hopefully) me.
Our Tina will be loved, prayed to and missed by Larry & Margaret Nelson ‘s family !
I too have been touched by Tina’s gentleness and grace. She was one of my formation leaders for a Level III course in Chicago and she made making the level III materials seem possible! My favorite times with her were during meals when she would speak about her family. Her sons were her life’s work and the joy of her life. I know how much her grandchildren, daughters-in-law and friends meant to her too. There was also a very deep sense of love for her husband. She has inspired me so much in working with the children, with adults, and with my family. May her light continue to shine.
